Agroecology: EKAGRI Immersed in Regenerative Training at Uganda’s Bethany Land Institute

LUWEERO, Uganda – Since February 23, the Bethany Land Institute (BLI) has been hosting an intensive training session dedicated to regenerative agroforestry. Among the participants is a dynamic delegation from the Congolese agricultural and environmental consultancy EKAGRI SARL, currently mastering innovative techniques to transform regional farming landscapes.

A Hub for African Resilience

Located in the Luweero District, the Bethany Land Institute is far more than a simple training center; it is a premier research and experimentation hub advocating for a holistic approach to land management. Guided by its « Care for Our Common Home » model, BLI distinguishes itself by merging ecological restoration, food self-sufficiency, and rural dignity. By hosting experts and trainees from across the sub-region, the institute cements its role as a catalyst for a green and resilient Africa.

EKAGRI Strengthening Expertise Through Immersion

EKAGRI SARL, a leading player in agricultural consultancy in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), is maintaining a strong presence at this high-level event. The delegation includes Elie Cirhuza and Emmanuel Basoda, both well-known advocates for sustainable practices in the DRC.

Joining them is a professional intern from the firm, a graduate in agronomy, who spoke on the intensity of the curriculum:

« These first two days have been a total immersion. Moving between agroforestry system theory and hands-on plantation work, we are discovering concrete solutions for the smart integration of crops and trees. »

From Theory to Practice: Bio-pesticides and Black Soldier Flies

The program, which concludes this Saturday, explores disruptive technologies for modern farm management:

  • Organic Fertilizers: Production techniques designed to slash dependence on chemical inputs.
  • Bio-pesticides: Specialized workshops focused on environmentally friendly crop protection.
  • Circular Economy: A specific focus on Black Soldier Fly (BSF) farming—an innovative solution that converts organic waste into high-quality animal protein and nutrient-rich compost.

A Lever for Landscape Restoration in the DRC

For EKAGRI, this mission to Uganda aligns with a long-term vision: equipping its executives and interns with the best tools to guide Congolese producers toward a profitable agroecological transition. The stakes are high: transforming technical knowledge into economic drivers for local communities while restoring soil health.

Mkulima.net will continue to follow this training session to bring you the latest innovations shaping the future of agriculture.
